This decision was announced on September 23, 2024, and it's a significant milestone for the film's director, Kiran Rao.

The film based on minor girls' marriages issue widely in India. Moreover, film touched many emotional issues in cinematic way, like, dowry, socio culture in backward areas etc.

Submitting Film Since 1957: India has been submitting films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1957, and only three Indian films have been nominated for the award so far: "Mother India" (1957), "Salaam Bombay!" (1988), and "Lagaan" (2001) .
